sarah blair, Breast surgical oncology

Sarah Blair is a Surgical Oncologist and has a specific interest in breast cancer treatment and prevention. She takes compassionate care of her patients and has a special interest in extending breast conservation when oncologically appropriate. She completed her General Surgery training at the University of Massachusetts and a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at City of Hope National Medical. Dr. Blair has been a full time faculty member of the Department of Surgery at the University of California San Diego since 2001.
Dr. Blair is the Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for the Department of Surgery. She maintains a busy clinical practice as well as teaching residents and students in surgical oncology and breast surgery. Dr. Blair has co-authored over 100 peer reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters. She chairs two national committees. She is the Chair of the Dissemination and Implementation Committee for the American College of Surgeons Clinical Research Program and she is vice chair of the publication committee for the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Dr Blair’s research focus has been on surgical margins for breast cancer during breast conservation operations. In her research at University of California San Diego, Dr. Blair has been developing a method for using nanotechnology to localize non palpable breast and lung cancers. She has completed NCI funded grants to develop this technology and now there is a start-up company that has gotten FDA approval to start human trials.
