Teriyika D. Thompson is a hematology nurse navigator, specializing in lymphoma, leukemia, and myeloma blood cancers. Teri has worked in the medical realm of VCU Health System for over 32 years with more than 13 years of experience caring for oncology patients. In 2023, she obtained her Master of Science Degree in Nursing Leadership from Western Governors University. Teri began her oncology career on VCU Health System’s Cellular Immunotherapy Transplantation unit where she performed stem cell transplants and clinical trial regimens on both pediatric and adult populations. She has accumulated various accolades for patient advocacy, RN Professional Practice, RN Excellence in Nursing, as well as spearheaded a multitude of oncology nursing projects. Her commitment to patient-centered care and nursing excellence has led her to become an oncology nurse navigator where she educates, facilitates, and support newly diagnosed hematologic cancer patients within a multidisciplinary care setting. As a navigator, a large part of Teri’s efforts pertains to guiding patients through the continuum of initial diagnosis, oncology treatment, survivorship, and end-of -life support. Additionally, Teri affirms that connecting patients to both internal and external resources is key to delivering collaborative efforts and reducing fragmented care. As a participating member of Oncology Nursing Society and Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau International, Teri maintains her knowledge in hematologic advances by keeping abreast of the most recent clinical trials, educational trainings, and innovative treatments options.
