Nikki McCoy learned she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation in 2019. She underwent subsequent preventative surgeries, including a double mastectomy and reconstruction in 2021. Eight months later, she still developed breast cancer—Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.

The courage to speak up about the raw experiences of cancer in the context of relationships, shared decision making, and wellness beyond the doctor’s office brought Nikki into the advocacy space as she tells her stories of healing and community.    

Throughout her prevention-to-survivorship journey, Nikki has worked closely with her care team, which includes her husband, teenage sons, elder dog, and two fluffy cats.
